Thursday, Sept. 10
Tennessee (+6.5) at Pittsburgh
SUCK IT TITANS!
Side note: I said I would play this season as if I was really in Vegas, meaning although I will pick every game, I am only required to pick half of the games. I will keep track of both totals.
I would not touch this game.

One more week
Yep, one more week and I'll publish my final over/under predictions for the season...Not that they should change that much, but there have been some developments, like Favre going to the Vikings. I don't know how much I think it will affect them just yet, but I have a week to think about it.

Coming Soon
My usual summer hiatus is almost over...I would love to devote more time to writing, but just bad timing right now...Can't wait to return during football season!

I Believe...
Well, I was in Vegas this past weekend and couldn't leave without putting something on the NFL Futures (the whole reason I started this blog in the first place). They didn't have the over-under for wins available, only odds on who is going to win the Super Bowl or conference championships. Caesar's had the Texans at 18-1, but Planet Hollywood had them at 40-1 to win the Super Bowl. So, I threw down fitty on my boys at 40-1 for next season.
Here's hoping...
Here's hoping...

All-Time Houston Rockets Team
I'm going to try to select the All-Time Team for each NBA team. It's going to take a while, but I'm curious to see how each squad would match up. I want to see how the Rockets stack up against everyone else's All-Time Team. There will be 12 players on each team and each player will make the team based on his best season, which must be a full season with that team. There will be a starter and a reserve at each position and two extras at any position. Players can be moved to another position within reason.

Major Golf Schedule
Sometimes I do things just for reference and this is one of those times -- so deal with it. We all know where the Masters is held, so I'll leave that off. I have a few reasons for doing this. First of all, it's I'd like to see where Tiger Woods is going to break Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major championships and second of all, the PGA always falls the week of my birthday and I would love to spend it at a major. Here's the list of where each year's last three majors will be held and dates when available:

Post-Draft Picks
It's going to take me a little while to predict what kind of effect the draft is going to have on each team, so I'm not going to change anything right now. What it did was solidify some of my choices. I think the Packers' defense got immediately better with the selections of Raji and Matthews, so I think they will win the NFC North. I didn't see the Titans or Jaguars improving themselves, so I'm going to stick with the Colts and Texans to make the playoffs.
The Titans and Jags both needed to add something on the offensive side of the ball and they didn't do it. The Titans are also going to miss Albert Haynesworth a lot more than people think they are. What the Titans became is the Texans' defense with a secondary that is a little more opportunistic. Without Haynesworth applying pressure, how much more opportunistic is that secondary going to be? I see them struggling big-time this year, because 20 points isn't going to win them as many games as it did a year ago. I think both teams will have trouble scoring enough points to keep up with Houston and Indy.
I love that the Texans are playing the Jets at home in Week 1 and I love having the Raiders on the schedule period. They are a disaster.
I still see two scenarios that could change my picks drastically. I would like to see where Braylon Edwards ends up and the Cardinals need to figure out what they're going to do with Anquan Boldin. Edwards would give the Giants a clear leg up in the NFC East, but right now that division is anybody's for the taking, except for Washington. Boldin is the reason why I have Arizona finishing so poorly compared to last year. I also believe a healthy Hasselbeck and the additions of Houshmandzadeh, Curry and Unger will push them back to the forefront in the NFC West.
Can't wait for some of these things to start taking shape.

Seattle +2
After pondering my initial picks, I've decided to give Seattle the benefit of the doubt and give them wins at Arizona and at Green Bay. This would raise the Seahawks record to 10-6, therefore earning the NFC West division crown. I fully believe in the Super Bowl loser jinx and I think the Cardinals will be average after already losing Antonio Smith and on the verge of losing Anquan Boldin.
I like the Packers at 10-6 so I gave them another win against Chicago, but I also gave the Bears a win against Minnesota, so the only other team affected is Minnesota. They fall to 8-8, as do the Cardinals.
So here's the update:
Seattle 10-6 (+2)
Minnesota 8-8 (-1)
Arizona 8-8 (-1)
New NFC Divisional Round matchup:
New Orleans at Seattle

2009 NFL Way-Too-Early Predictions -- Take One
As in previous years, the point of these predictions is to pick the correct over/under on number of wins compared to Las Vegas. Since their predictions will not be out until August, that gives me time to make corrections before I have to lock them in the week before the regular season starts.
We'll start where we should, the most competitive division in football, and work our way through.

NFL Way-Too-Early Preview
With the release of the 2009 NFL Schedule tomorrow, I have decided to go ahead and start doing my homework early. I will make predictions for the upcoming season starting after the schedule release at 6 p.m. CDT. I will adjust my predictions frequently, kind of like the stock market -- all the way up until Opening Day. I will lock in my picks the Monday before the first Thursday night game of the season.
Just something to do to pass the time.

Conference Championship Results
Since I have no shot to reach .500 this year, I've decided to do things a little differently next year. I'm still going to pick every game, but I'm also going to play as if I were really in Vegas each Sunday. Meaning: I will have a separate category of picks of games I would actually put money on. There were so many games this year I would not have touched if I was playing with someone else's money, but since that was the point of this blog, I had to. This way, I don't have to beat myself up each week because I had to make a pick. We'll see how it goes next season, which is way too far away :(
